My Story
So many people scroll past posts like these, but if you do anything today, listen to my story, educate yourselves and help me to help others because you honestly do not know how much of a difference you can make.
The month of May is Huntington’s Disease awareness month, where the community all around the world come together with a shared mission to support one another, educating society and raise awareness.
For anyone who knows myself and my family, know how much of an impact this disease has had on us and how passionate we are about raising awareness and supporting the HD community.
This awareness month, the Huntington’s Disease Associaiton are working on a campaign called ‘Huntington’s in Mind’ in an effort to shine a light on the mental health challenges individuals impacted by Huntington’s Disease will face. The last year has been incredibly tough and I cannot emphasise enough the mental health difficulties that come as a direct result of this disease. The shortfall in access to mental health services and the limited knowledge surrounding Huntington’s disease amongst so many mental health practitioners make it incredibly tough to obtain support.
HDYO - Huntingtons youth organisation are an international organisation who provide support for young people impacted by Huntington’s Disease all over the world, educating and empowering them to become better versions of themselves. HDYO truly are remarkable, making a difference to so many young people. I can honestly say they have completely saved my life and If I did not have the amazing support from them and so many inspirational individuals over the last 12 months I honestly don’t know where I would be. I am so incredibly honoured to be an ambassador and do all I can to support young people and their families.
I truly feel I have an important part to play in ensuring no individual has to struggle in silence, feel isolated and unsupported. This August, along with three other incredible young people from the HD community, will be climbing the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales and completing the British Three Peaks challenge in an attempt to fundraise for HDYO (Huntington's Disease Youth Organisation)but to raise awareness and bring some positivity in such a difficult time.
Please Please Please help me in ensuring young people across the world continue to receive the support they truly need and deserve. This is alongside the Huntington's Disease Association campaign Huntington’sinMind which really does highlight the mental health challenges and the incredible shortfall in support.
